Matteo Ciancio is an experienced restaurateur who owned and operated two restaurants in his native Italy before moving to London in 2012. Brought up in a town near Rome called Palestrina, Matteo was in and around restaurants a lot as a child and fell in love with the atmosphere they create. Before moving to the UK, Matteo owned and ran both a steak house and a modern Italian pizzeria in Palestrina, and states that although it was not his plan to do so, this made him fall in love with hospitality.
After moving to the UK, Matteo worked at Michelin starred Seven Park Place by William Drabble at St. James’ Hotel & Club for two years, before joining The Ivy Collection for the opening of its first restaurant, The Ivy Market Grill, in 2014. Joining as Assistant Restaurant Manager, he was promoted to Restaurant Manager, and finally to Assistant General Manager at the same restaurant, before moving to The Ivy Tower Bridge as General Manager earlier this year.
Matteo is proud of his restaurant career to date and his progression to General Manager over the last few years, and is excited to take on the challenge of being General Manager at Harry’s Bar.
When not working Matteo likes to spend time in Balham, where he lives with his long term girlfriend. Together they enjoy visiting local restaurant Milk, and for a treat like to visit the Summer House in Little Venice. In his spare time Matteo is a fan of home improvement and DIY; he is also an avid reader who likes to read every day, and a watch enthusiast.
